"Follow the Leader in Your Role as a Husband"
Ephesians 5:23
For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
In this verse, Paul states that the husband is the head of the wife. However, he doesn't stop there… he relates the husband’s headship with Christ’s headship over the church.
The headship statement implies that a wife should follow the lead of her husband, but it also implies (what seems to me) a larger responsibility for the husband. Christ gave up His very life for the church. Headship means more than having people follow your lead, it means giving yourself for them.
As Christ puts the needs of the church before his own, the husband must put his wife's needs before his own. In fact, he must treasure her so much that he is willing to let go of his own life for her benefit. If this is the mindset of the husband, it will make it easier for the wife to follow his lead. She can learn to trust that her husband is working for her and with her best interest in mind.
Are you making decisions in your wife’s best interest?
Are you letting selfishness and self-preservation guide your decisions?
Look at Christ's example for inspiration and instruction. Ask yourself if Christ would make the same decision you are making if the decision concerned His bride, the church.
I Peter 2:21 For even thereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.
