"The Strength in Weakness: God Working through Imperfect Messengers"
On April 23, 2003, Walter Mutti delivered a sermon at Crossroads, where he spoke a phrase that resonated deeply with me… "ordinary people giving glory to God."
His teaching reminded me of one of my early experiences as a pastor. I was on a trip to Maine with a choir from our church, and it was my turn to deliver the sermon following our choir's performance. In my 30 years of ministry, I have never felt sick just before delivering a sermon, but I did on this particular night. I distinctly recall informing people that I might not be able to complete the message, but despite my apprehensions, I managed to push through. While I don't consider it to be a particularly remarkable sermon, something remarkable happened afterwards. After the service, a young man was brought to me, and it was explained that he had made the decision to dedicate his life to Christ.
Even in moments of personal weakness or uncertainty, God can still work through us and bring about significant impact in the lives of others. It serves as a reminder that our effectiveness as messengers of the gospel is not solely dependent on our own abilities, but rather on the power of God working through us.
Your willingness to persevere through challenges and share what God is doing in your life, will bear fruit at some point. God promised to bless His word when we share it with others. Remember that God can use even our imperfect efforts to bring about profound change in those we encounter. Keep trusting in His guidance and allowing Him to work through you, for He can turn ordinary moments into extraordinary opportunities for His glory.
God explained to Paul, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
Paul’s response to this was, “So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
