Still Speaking: When Old Headlines Echo God’s Truth

High-Tech Distractions
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1–2

Long before smartphones, people found ways to multitask behind the wheel — shaving, eating, tying ties, calming kids in the backseat. Now the distractions have only multiplied. I read a stat years ago where they estimated nearly a third of all crashes came from distraction. It’s easy to shake our heads, but spiritually, we do the same thing. We try to follow Jesus while juggling too many things, glancing at Him between tasks, assuming we can stay on course.

The writer of Hebrews reminds us that running this race requires focus. Some distractions are sinful; others are simply heavy. Either way, they slow us down.
I’ve learned that God doesn’t always ask me to drop what’s wrong — sometimes He asks me to lay down what’s in the way.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” — Hebrews 12:1–2

Reflection
What’s been stealing your focus lately?
What “weight” could you lay aside to make space for peace and presence again?

Prayer
Lord, quiet the noise.
Show me what I need to release so I can follow You freely.
Help me fix my eyes on You — the Pioneer and Perfector of my faith.
