Still Speaking: When Old Headlines Echo God’s Truth
The News That Never Grows Old
Scripture: Psalm 119:89–93
“Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.
Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
You established the earth, and it endures.
Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve You.
If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have preserved my life.”
— Psalm 119:89–93
News stories come and go. What’s urgent today is often forgotten tomorrow. We live in a culture that moves fast, and it’s easy to feel like if we’re not keeping up, we’re being left behind.
But God’s Word doesn’t operate on those timelines. It doesn’t expire. It doesn’t get buried beneath the next headline. It still speaks.
Psalm 119 reminds us of that. While the world shifts, God’s Word stands firm. While generations rise and fall, His faithfulness doesn’t waver. The same God who established the earth is still holding it — and us — together.
That’s more than poetic language. It’s a lifeline.
“If Your law had not been my delight,” the psalmist writes, “I would have perished in my affliction.” That’s not theory — that’s testimony. That’s someone who’s been through something and found God’s Word to be more than enough.
Maybe you’ve experienced that too — or maybe you’re still hoping to. Either way, this passage invites us to return to the one thing that endures: God’s truth. His voice. His Word.
You don’t have to remember everything you’ve learned in past weeks or months to receive something fresh today. Just pause long enough to ask:
What is God still saying — right now — and how is His Word holding you?
Reflection
Where do you need something solid right now? Are there places in your life that feel shaky —
and how might God’s Word speak into them?
When you look back, can you see ways God has been faithful in your life or your family’s story?
How does that give you hope for today?
Has there been a moment when Scripture helped carry you through suffering? What passages became
anchors for you?
What part of God’s Word is preserving you now — sustaining you, helping you stay grounded,
guiding your next steps?
Prayer
Faithful God,
Thank You that Your Word doesn’t fade like the headlines.
Thank You for anchoring me when life feels uncertain.
Teach me to return to Your truth — not just when I’m desperate, but daily.
Let my life, however ordinary it seems, reflect the grace You’re still pouring out.
Amen.
