New Series - "Still Speaking: When Old Headlines Echo God’s Truth"
When the World Moves On, God Keeps Speaking
Scripture: Isaiah 40:6–8
“A voice says, ‘Cry out.’
And I said, ‘What shall I cry?’
All people are like grass,
and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the Lord blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.” — Isaiah 40:6–8
The world has a short memory. Yesterday’s tragedies are replaced by today’s scandals, and by next week no one remembers either. We move on quickly — not because we’ve healed, but because it’s easier than slowing down.
God’s Word, however, does not move on. It waits. It endures. It stands as steady as the One who spoke it.
Isaiah reminded Israel that everything in this world — kingdoms, power, fame, even human faithfulness — withers like grass. But the Word of God remains.
That’s what this next set of devotionals will be about — Still Speaking is about learning to hear that Word again.
We’re not chasing breaking news or nostalgia; we’re slowing down long enough to recognize that the same human struggles play out in every era. Pride, greed, apathy, distraction, love, grace — the headlines keep changing, but the heart of the story does not. Sometimes, the old stories speak most clearly because the noise around them has finally gone quiet.
When we revisit those headlines, we can see our own reflection — and maybe hear the Lord whisper, “I’m still here. I’m still speaking. Listen.”
Reflection
Where does God’s Word need to break through the noise in your life right now?
Are there places where you’ve “moved on” too quickly — pain, conviction, calling — before hearing what God wanted to say through it?
Prayer
Lord, in a world addicted to speed, teach me the holiness of slowing down.
Open my ears to Your steady voice that never fades or fails.
Through every story, every season, every silence — keep speaking, and help me listen.
Memory Verse: Isaiah 40:8 — “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
