Scripture
"By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future."
— Hebrews 11:20 (NIV)
Devotional
Have you ever laid awake at night worrying about tomorrow?
Will everything work out?
Will my family be okay?
Will God provide?
Those questions aren't new. They're part of being human. But if we're not careful, tomorrow can steal today's peace.
Isaac understood something many of us struggle to keep in mind.
Hebrews tells us that by faith he blessed Jacob and Esau concerning their future. Think about that. Isaac was speaking confidently about things he would never live to see.
How could he do that?
Because his confidence wasn't in knowing the future.
It was in knowing the God who holds the future.
That's an important distinction.
So much of our anxiety comes from trying to control what God has never asked us to control. We rehearse conversations that haven't happened. We imagine problems that don't exist yet. We carry tomorrow's burdens before they are even here.
Jesus addressed this very struggle in Matthew 6 when He told His followers not to worry about tomorrow. He wasn't dismissing our concerns. He was reminding us that the same Father who cares for the birds and clothes the flowers is watching over His children.
Faith doesn't eliminate uncertainty.
It simply changes where we look.
Instead of looking at all the things that might happen, we look to the God who has promised never to leave us or forsake us.
Isaac couldn't guarantee what tomorrow would bring for his sons.
But he knew God would already be there.
The same is true for you.
Whatever tomorrow holds, it will never arrive before God does.
So don't borrow tomorrow's worries.
Receive today's grace.
And trust God to provide tomorrow's grace when tomorrow becomes today.
Reflect
Pray
Father, thank You for holding my future in Your hands. Forgive me for carrying worries You never asked me to bear. Help me trust that Your grace will be enough—not only for today, but for every tomorrow You give me. Teach me to rest in Your faithfulness and to live fully in the day You've placed before me. Amen.
Memory Verse
"All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth."
— Hebrews 11:13 (NIV)
