A Faith Others Can See
Scripture
"By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph's sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff."
— Hebrews 11:21 (NIV)
Devotional
Have you ever stopped to think about what people will remember most about your life?
It probably won't be your career.
Or your accomplishments.
Or even the things you owned.
More than likely, they'll remember how you lived.
Hebrews gives us a beautiful picture of Jacob near the end of his life. His strength was fading. He was leaning on his staff. Yet before he left this world, he blessed his grandchildren and worshiped God.
What a picture of enduring faith.
Jacob's life wasn't perfect. In fact, much of it was messy. He deceived his brother. He struggled with fear. He experienced deep loss and family conflict. Yet through it all, God remained faithful, patiently shaping Jacob into a man who trusted Him.
I love that Hebrews doesn't remember Jacob primarily for his failures.
It remembers him for his faith.
Isn't that just like God's grace?
When we belong to Christ, our failures no longer have the final word. God's redeeming work does.
There's another detail that's easy to miss.
Jacob worshiped while leaning on his staff.
He didn't wait until he was stronger.
He didn't wait until life was easier.
He worshiped God exactly where he was.
That's a lesson worth remembering.
Some of the most powerful acts of worship happen in the middle of weakness.
People are watching your life.
Your children.
Your grandchildren.
Your friends.
Your neighbors.
They may never remember every word you say, but they'll remember what your life said about God.
May they see someone who trusted Christ through every season.
Because the greatest legacy you can leave is faith.
Reflect
Pray
Father, thank You for Your grace that continues to shape me throughout my life. Help me to live in such a way that others see Your faithfulness in me. Teach me to worship You in every season—whether I'm standing strong or simply leaning on You for strength. May my life point others to Jesus long after I'm gone. Amen.
Memory Verse
"All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth."
— Hebrews 11:13 (NIV)
