One of the most poignant observations I've read in the last decade came from Zack Eswine. He said that most people want to do big things for God, and they want to do them quickly and for all the world to see. But God calls us to do small, mostly overlooked things for a long period of time. Nathan Sloan's article, "Why I'm No Longer Trying to Be Extraordinary" reminded me of Eswine's wisdom.
